The concept behind this sculpture started back in 2013, I was reading up about the influence of consumerism and pop culture on art.
Consumerism is the idea that increasing the consumption of goods and services purchased in the market is always a desirable goal and that a person's wellbeing and happiness depend fundamentally on obtaining consumer goods and material possessions.
With this sculpture I wanted to use the baby as a metaphor for purity and the icecream as a symbol for consumption and material possessions.
When a human being is born it is in it’s purest state of being.
Once it’s starts growing up it build cravings and needs.. starting with a simple icecream as a kid.. but rapidly growing to more expensive desires of material “wealth”
"Keeping up with the joneses” as they say in the United states 🇺🇸 is a concept that one wants to compete with one’s neighbors when it comes to material possessions.
My sculpture expresses these topics and also serves as a mirror for self reflection on these topics.
What is your opinion on this?
